Making Felt Blueberries
The first step is making the felt blueberries.
Don’t be intimidated by the number of blueberries these felt foods are fast and easy to sew. You’ll need a strong thread, if your thread is too week to handle the gather you can use 2 strands doubled over.
When creating your X shape in the center of the circles cut small but be sure to cut completely through.
Cut small X shapes into the two largest felt circles but not the smallest circle.
Stack circles.
Create a gathering stitch around the outside of the largest circle.
Stuff lightly
Pull tightly, run the needle through the base of the berry in varying directions to close.
Repeat with remaining berries.Sew blue top to the thick felt blueberry box top with a running stitch and matching thread.
Stitch finished berries into place by stewing stitches through them leaving space along the edges.
Stack a few berries on top of the base of berries if desired to create depth.
Set aside
Using felt glue blueberry basket cut out cover to all four basket sides. You can also carefully applique stitch this on if felt glue or tacky glue isn’t available.
Connect sides along the short sided angles with an overcast stitch and matching thread.
Connect sides to bottom with an overcast stitch and matching thread.
Connect berry top to berry basket with an overcast stitch and thread to match the basket. Stuff before sewing closed.
Attach berry basket lips on short ends with matching thread and an overcast stitch. Connect all four.
To finish slip basket lip over berry basket and stitch through at corners to secure.
While felt avocados and chestnuts are quirky and a little refined, kids love to play with the foods they enjoy most and few things hold the childhood allure of a box of chicken nuggets complete with a dipping sauce.
This sweet little DIY chicken nuggets play set will create 7 fun felt food chicken nuggets, a cheerfully detailed felt chicken nugget box, and delightful dipping sauce cup.
Happy meal indeed!
For what started out as such a simple idea these nuggets were a bit tricky. Some early versions sewed up looking like potatoes or smashed peanuts. I played with color and scale, added wrinkles and divots and tried a sea of shapes before hitting on a weird but amazing idea…use fur felt!
The addition of fur felt really makes these felt food chicken nuggets look breaded. Not to mention they are so soft and and dare I say cute?
Making these felt chicken nuggets couldn’t be easier! You can use this easy pattern or even freehand your shapes. (How fun would it be to go for an omage to dino nuggets?) These whimsical felt chicken nuggets sew up quick and easy!
I think you’ll love the results as much as I do.Sew up some adorable felt food chicken nuggets with this free pattern.
3″ x 3″ felt scrap for felt dipping sauce I used Auburn Mustard Seed (Mustard) and Big Apple (Ketchup) Fresh Linen (Ranch), Gold Nugget (Honey) and Watermelon (Sweet and Sour) are other great choices.
9″ x 6″ Red felt for box stripe – I used Tomato Soup*
Match felt nugget pattern pieces. Over cast stitch around the outside edge with matching thread.Stuff felt chicken nugget and sew closed with the same stitch. Repeat with remaining nuggets. Sew box front onto one of the bottom pieces with white thread and an overcast stitch. Sew short sides to the box on both sides of the bottom box piece. Set aside. Sew back onto the long side of the box top.
Sew top flap to other long side.
Sew back to bottom.
Your box should look like this.
Sew up short sides with an overcast stitch to create a box shape.
Repeat the process to create two identical box shapes.Lay red stripe piece over one completed box at an angle. Cut off where top flap ends.
Continue sewing stripe on front and bottom.
Overcast stitch the stripe down along the edges. (In the photos I did his after I combined the boxes and it can be done at either step however doing it beforehand is a lot simpler.)Match strip along box front and wrap around bottom. Secure as you did the top.
Sides will not match up along the bottom.
Sew faces onto felt nuggets by creating eyes (doubled over embroidery thread) and cheeks (single strand of embroidery thread) with french knots. Stitch on smile with black embroidery thread. Stitch nugget shapes down as shown with matching thread. Place boxes together with detailed box on the outside. Nest boxes together.Overcast the raw ends together with white thread to connect. If you decided to add the decor to the box afterwards simply stitch on as directed, making sure to only go through one layer of felt so stitches don’t show.
To make felt food dipping cup
Stitch side to white base with an overcast stitch and matching thread. Stitch short ends of cup side together with an overcast stitch. Stuff with stuffing or felt scrapStitch colored top onto dipping sauce with an overcast stitch.Lay one sauce rim on top and overcast stitch along the open center.
Place second rim onto the first and overcast stitch around the raw edges.
Summer is here and it’s the perfect time to set up a living room ice cream shop. Fill your felt freezer with these adorable and super soft felt ice cream cones. Our felt tutorial will walk you step by step through the entire process.
Fold long ends of ice cream piece together and overcast stitch together. Lightly stuff but leave the very tip a little unstuffed to curl it later.
Stitch around the opening with a gathering stitch, pull closed and run the need through a few times. Using a full stand of embroidery thread not doubled over go in through the base and out through the base of the body. and wrap around. Pass needle through the tip and create a tiny stitch back to the base to make a curl and hide the knot.
Hold wrapped string in place with small tacking stitches along the body of the ice cream. (see below for a close up of tacking stitches) Place with the tip of the ice cream a little to get it to curl. Set aside.
Cone Time!
Cut out cone base from light brown felt, lightly trace the triangle shapes with pencil. Stitch along pencil marks with long stitches and a full strand of cross stitching thread doubled over.
Go back over long stitches with short stitches into the centers to hold the thread down. As shown. These are tacking stitches.
Put long ends of the felt cone together and sew to form a tube. Stuff Lightly.
Sew ice cream to cone with an over cast stitch. You will be covering up this part of the cone so don’t worry about perfection.
Sew or glue rim to the top of the cone and overcast stitch base onto bottom of cone.
